And We’re Off Again…

Dear readers:

Actually, first of all, dear would-be robbers: Our house will be well staffed daily with an army of hawk-eyed sitters, so don’t even try it.

Again I say, dear readers: We’re headed off on a grand adventure!

We’re setting out tomorrow night for Ho Chi Minh City, where we’ll stay in what looks to be the fabulous new An Lam Saigon River Residences on the river, a short speed boat ride from the sights in District 1. (I never met a villa with a private pool and butler I didn’t like.) Bonus! As utter serendipity/luck/fate/The Secret would have it, we’re checking in the same day as my old N.Y.U. journalism school friend, Naomi, who is a travel journalist living now in Cambodia. What a thrill to see her again, and to learn the best of Ho Chi Minh City from an expert; Naomi recently reported a New York Times “36 Hours” piece on Saigon that isn’t even out yet, so we shall have lucky access to very privileged information!

We’ll spend a couple of days in and around Ho Chi Minh, before winging off to the beach in Nha Trang, where we’ll stay at the Six Senses Evason Ana Mandara and meet up with our dear friend, Melissa, who will be coming off a Habitat for Humanity project over there. We’ll hope to get in some diving, beach sitting, eating, meandering — and we all definitely want to hit up some of the tailors for which Vietnam is known. (Melissa and I are dreaming up blazers and things, and David has his mind set on some suits.)

Next, we shall bid adieu to Melissa who will head on to Cambodia while we fly off to Bali. We’ll spend the rest of our trip in and around Ubud, splitting our time between the Viceroy Bali (pictured above) and the Four Seasons Bali at Sayang, both of which look to die — and our villas at both of which are bigger than either our current house or our previous condo. We’re eyeing major massage therapy, maybe a visit to the monkey forest, maybe an elephant trek, maybe rafting. Also strolling, reading and meditating as the rain falls outside, and generally communing with our spiritual sides.

Can’t wait to share all the details with you! xox
